At least we got one -OTY out by now!
Howdy! I’m Zack, and I’m one of the newest Chooch hires! I’ve been brought on as one of the resident audio/video editors, or as I’ve taken to calling the position, Video Boy.
I’m currently living in Tucson, Arizona (Which means I’m legally obligated to start this intro with “howdy,” since I have unwillingly absorbed cowboy culture via osmosis.) It’s basically so hot that it’s practically unlivable here 90% of the time, so I spend pretty much all my free time inside – away from the oppressive sun – either loitering in Taco Bell or playing video games and making videos from said games. So this’ll be more of the same from what I’m already doing!
I’ve been making videos from games since I was in middle school, the earliest I can remember is seeing Freddie Wong’s Guitar Hero 2 YYZ video and thinking “I can do that!” and setting up a Handycam to film myself playing it on medium difficulty, and then poorly editing it in Windows Movie Maker. A few years later, I thought I could “make it” making Garry’s Mod videos. It’s been a long road.
But, I’ve been playing video games for as long as I can remember. One of my earliest memories was playing Sonic Spinball in my friend’s attic, and not long after, my family got a Playstation and I spent tons of hours playing Spyro, and then Crash Bandicoot, and eventually onto Jak & Daxter, and Sonic Adventure, and so on and so forth onto newer and newer generations.
Nowadays, I’m pretty into fighting games – Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 is currently the one I’m taking “seriously” (seriously meaning I probably won’t go 0-2 in pools at a tournament.) Outside of fighters, my favorite games are a bit of a hodge podge. The Metal Gear series, Star Fox Assault, Red Dead Redemption, Beautiful Katamari, the Max Payne series, Cities: Skylines… The list goes on.
I’ve had a longstanding belief that the editor for video content isn’t just there to throw together clips in a coherent manner – they add to the experience of the video as a whole, and I’m really looking forward to being able to provide my touch to Chooch’s video content in the future.
