Here’s your “uh alright, sure?” story of the day. According to a story broken by the Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has secured the rights to a movie based on the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise created by indie developer Scott Cawthon. Five Nights will be produced by a gaggle of producers, including Roy Lee, who is also producing a remake of It. The producers claim they will be “…looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie,” which should be good news for fans of the games.
If you’re unaware of what Five Nights at Freddy’s is, it’s a series of horror games set in a Chuck-E-Cheese-esque pizza place haunted by evil animatronics. You must conserve electricity to barricade doors and keep a watchful eye on the robots or else they jumpscare you and it’s game over. I’ve heard murmurs of there being a deeper plot than just that, but I’m still very unconvinced that something like this would translate well to a movie. It might also be strange watching Five Nights at Freddy’s content without a scarecam in the lower left corner. ZING!
