Swery Announces New “Mystery RPG” The Good Life

Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro, the creative powerhouse behind D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die and the masterpiece Deadly Premonition, is working on the first game out of his newly-formed White Owls studio: a “mystery RPG” called The Good Life.

Revealed via an email from the crowdfunding platform Fig, The Good Life will go live for funding on September 2nd at 7:00 PM PT, right after Swery’s panel at PAX West. So what, exactly, is The Good Life?

According to the presser, it’s a story set in Rainy Woods, the “happiest town in the world.” Players take on the role of a New York photographer named Naomi, who has somehow found herself stuck in the sleepy town. It sounds like a classic Twin Peaks-esque setup, where all is not as it seems – this apparently proves to be the case, as The Good Life’s twist is that all of Rainy Woods’ inhabitants transform into cats as the sun sets.

Although there aren’t many other meaty details in the press release, it includes a letter from Swery, who states the game will “inherit the spirit of Deadly Premonition,” but will feature “a brand new style of gameplay.” Cat-based transformation certainly is a far cry from the minor oddities of Greenvale, but it leaves one wondering if Special Agent Francis York Morgan would be an American Shorthair or a Bobtail.

We can almost certainly expect more info about The Good Life in a few weeks at PAX West. Until then, I’ll dying to know more – is the main character a reference to Naomi Watts? How did everyone turn into cats in the first place? Finally, how much coffee drinking will be in this game? Please Swery. I need to know.
