Nioh’s “Dragon of The North” DLC Is Out May 2nd

Fans of the (sorry) Dark Soulsian Nioh will be in for a treat early next week with the launch of its first DLC pack.

Dragon of the North will take players to the Oshu region of Japan to square off against Keicho Era ruler Masamune Date, also known as the “One-Eyed Dragon.” The new chapter will take place after the ending of Nioh, with William heading north to investigate rumors of more Amrita mischief.

Team Ninja detailed why they chose Masamune Date as their antagonist in a PlayStation Blog post:

Masamune is a well-known historical figure who is both brilliant and ruthless. Although he was an exceptional leader; his ambition and lust for power blinded him to all else. He was known for being an impulsive leader who was wildly arrogant of his abilities — believing he was superior to most men, yet at the same time greatly devoted to the his land and subjects. We found this disparity in his personality to be something that we could utilize to create a memorable character and a formidable adversary for William.

Team Ninja promises the DLC will bring interesting new stages filled with Yokai new and old, and plenty of different skills, armor sets, and magic to help along the way. Though there will be plenty of new variants of old weapons, there will also be a totally new weapon in the form of an Odachi, which will just be a big-ass katana if it’s anything like the real life Odachi.

Along with the single-player component, a fully featured Player vs. Player feature will be added to let those crazy samurai who are into the “honorable duel” scene have a good time (as long as they have PS+).

Dragon of the North will launch Tuesday, May 2nd for PlayStation 4.
