Last night, out of seemingly no where, Smash 4 updated on Wii U. Normally this would send me into a tizzy, attempting to figure out how characters have changed, who was buffed, who was nerfed, etc. But since the update didn’t go out to the 3DS as well, we know the update was for something the Wii U version had exclusively. And that’s absolutely right.

The update adds 8-player Smash functionality to a handful of stages in the game. These aren’t technically new stages, just size adjustments to old stages to allow more fighters. The stages are:

Normal stages:

  • Pyrosphere
  • Norfair
  • Town and City
  • Smashville
  • Lylat Cruise
  • Wii Fit Studio
  • Pokemon Stadium 2
  • Mario Circuit (Brawl)
  • Luigi’s Mansion

Omega/Final Destination stages:

  • Mario Circuit (Brawl)
  • Mario Galaxy
  • Lylat Cruise
  • Town and City
  • Great Cave Offensive
  • Pokemon Stadium 2

Even though Sakurai has stated that no more updates would be made to character balance, I continue to hope he breaks his word. Either way, we still have the Miiverse stage and Mewtwo to look forward to, so let’s all pray Sakurai is convinced to support the game just a bit longer.
