A few years ago, the name Puzzle Fighter would bring to mind a classic Capcom puzzle game starring Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, and even Cyberbots characters. Now, it is an exceptionally ugly mobile game with free-to-play elements that the vast majority of consumers balked at. It seems as though the market has spoken, as this current iteration of Puzzle Fighter will be shutting down service on July 31st, just eight months after the game launched.

Capcom’s official statement claims the game is shuttering so its developer, Capcom Vancouver, can focus on the Dead Rising series. Servers will shut down on July 31st, but the game will be delisted on the app store on July 1st. Currency purchases will cease to be available on April 23rd. To compensate current players, everyone will recieve 10,000 gems (the game’s purchasable currency), and future promised characters Regina from Dino Crisis, Dr. Wily from Mega Man, and Ada Wong from Resident Evil, as well as Darminor and Uroboros Laboratory stages, will be free. Regina and Dr. Wily are available now, in fact, with Ada and the stages coming April 23rd.

A Puzzle Fighter title was recently rated for home consoles, but it’s unknown if this will be a port of this mobile game, some new game, or a port of a previous Puzzle Fighter. Hell, this rated game may be scrapped now that the mobile game did so poorly.
